MetaCartel’s origins trace back to 2018, a time when a group of individuals, united by their shared interest in meta-transactions, coalesced around Peter Pan through online meetings and offline gatherings. Their initial goal was collaborative development of meta-transaction solutions. However, faced with other teams achieving breakthroughs first, MetaCartel found itself at a crossroads. Recognizing the unique collaborative culture they had cultivated, the members decided to explore new avenues. Their focus shifted towards Ethereum application innovation and enhanced user experience, leading to the creation of the influential newsletter, Game of DApps, and the Wizard of DApps podcast. After an unsuccessful attempt to join Moloch DAO, MetaCartel officially launched its own DAO in May 2019, dedicating itself to funding innovation within the Ethereum application layer. Operating on a donation-based funding model, MetaCartel DAO experienced rapid growth, investing in numerous projects and actively incubating and promoting the formation of new DAOs. The evolution of MetaCartel showcases the dynamic nature of DAOs. Its initial focus on meta-transactions evolved into a broader commitment to supporting the Ethereum ecosystem. This adaptation allowed it to not only survive but thrive, demonstrating a key strength of the DAO model: its adaptability to changing circumstances. The rejection from Moloch DAO, rather than being a setback, proved to be a catalyst for MetaCartel to forge its own path. The Game of DApps and Wizard of DApps initiatives further solidified its position as a key player, fostering community growth and disseminating information about promising projects within the Ethereum space.
